Dave Mackey is one of the world's greatest long distance trail runners with tremendous strength and speed on tough mountain trails. He has been a top runner at the marathon and longer distances for 12 years, and is a well-known international adventure racer and speed climber. Known for setting many records, Dave ran from South to North Rim of the Grand Canyon and back in under 7 hours. A Boulder, Colorado resident, he holds the fastest known time for any climber/runner soloing the First Flatiron (33 minutes, 17 seconds) and the Third Flatiron (33 min, 4 seconds) Chautauqua to Chautauqua. He has raced on the volcanoes in Mexico, in the European Alps, on the Inca Trail in Peru, in Borneo, Morocco, Abu Dhabi, and every continent except Antarctica. But his backyard in the foothills of Boulder is his favorite place to train. Dave was selected as USATF Ultrarunner of the Year in 2004 and 2005, and also won the 2004 Montrail Ultra Cup. In addition to his trail running prowess, Dave is also a very broad-ranging athlete, having competed at the highest levels of international adventure racing. He is a very kind and self-effacing person who loves to share his passion for being active in the outdoors with everyone he meets. A diverse person, in addition to being on the board of directors for two small Colorado non-profits, Dave volunteers in the health-care field and works in residential real estate. He is a superb ambassador for the outdoors and for trail running.
